Szeroka Street
Szeroka Street used to be a centre of village of Bawol, incorporated to Kazimierz soon after its settlement. It still looks like an elongated market square. “Szeroka” means wide and it really is. It is major street of Kazimierz Quarter now with many synagogues like: Old Synagogue, Remuh Synagogue, Wolf Popper's Synagogue.
It used to be more of them but some did not survived till today. But town houses of former Jewish Quarter did survive along this street. Among them is the family house of Helena Rubinstein – the future founder of the world-known cosmetic company, who was born here in 1870. Today along the street there are many cafes, shops and kosher restaurants. During the summer season and Festival of Jewish Culture this area is filled with tourists and Jewish visitors. Szeroka street, as well as more places in Kazimierz, was immortalized in Steven Spielberg's movie “Schindler's List”. [Kazimierz Jewish Quarter]
