Kosciuszko’s Mound
Tadeusz Kosciuszko was a Polish – Lithuanian general and military leader who led the Kosciuszko Uprising (unsuccessful) against Russia and the Kingdom of Prussia in 1794. Before he also fought in American Revolutionary War as a colonel in the Continental Army.
In 1820 citizens of Krakow began to raise a monument to the Polish national hero. Earth was brought here from each of Kosciuszko's Polish battlefields. Mound was completed in 1823. In 2002 its renovation was finished and today it is equipped with a steel skeleton and complex drainage system which ensures its stability in the future. Located on pretty high hill is visible from many parts of the city. It also provides a great view point from its top (probably the best in Krakow).
