Home > 6. International Theatre Festival Divine Comedy
Between December 8 and 15, Krakow organizes the Theatre Festival 'Divine Comedy' for the 6th time.
Dozens of performances at several different stages, several thousand spectators, crowds occupying the entrance to the theater and surplus audience- this is what this extremely popular festival held every December looks like. The Divine Comedy is organized annually to summarize the last theater season. Inspired by the great work of Dante Alighieri of the same name, it is a subjective overview of the most interesting, and often most controversial performances of the new Polish theater. The audience has the chance to see some plays from the current season, played in theaters throughout the country. In this year's competition theaters of Gdansk, Opole, Walbrzych, Szczecin, Wroclaw, Kielce, Warsaw, Bydgoszcz and Krakow will compete. The most important part of the festival is called Hell, meaning the Polish Competition INFERNO, which presents 12 of the most widely discussed performances from the season. The winners will be selected by an international jury and announced at night of 14 to 15 December. For the best play there is a prize waiting- the Grand Prix of 50 thousand zlotys sponsored by the Mayor of Krakow, Jacek Majchrowski.
Another parts of the program are Purgatorio- a showcase of performances from Krakow and Paradiso- overview of work of students of the National Higher Theatre School.
Tickets cost 50 PLN (normal) and 30 PLN (reduced).
