Two years after the death of Wislawa Szymborska MOCAK Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow will show an exhibition of collages made by the poet: alternatives of postcards, full of irony. In the 70's postcards were not available in Poland. The poet began corresponding with friends in this way. She treated collages as a kind of a personal letter. The collages are close to her worldview, philosophy and her poems. There is paradox and irony, and wit - very distinctive for her.
They leave an impression that she didn't want to write everything- for certain things she needed her collages as a way of artistic expression. The exhibition is a huge collection of collages, usually in size of postcards. No one knows exactly how many of them Szymborska created, but calculations estimate thousands. These minimalist compositions, created in search for new and surprising meanings, use a mix of images and sometimes words. The effect are visual poems. Out of 300 postcards made ​​in the technique of collage, 200 will be exposed traditionally on the walls and some find a place in the showcases. In addition, there will be a multimedia presentation of all the works in high magnification, displayed on the screen
The exhibition will be open from February 2 to April 13. Tickets cost 10/5 PLN.
