The castle in Pszczyna is probably the most beautiful residence in Silesia and one of the biggest attractions of the province.

The original castle was erected in Pszczyna probably in the 11th or 12th century by the Piast princes. For some time, the local lands were part of Lesser Poland, and from 1178 they became part of Silesia as a result of their being donated by the Krakow prince, Kazimierz II the Just, prince of Raciborz, Mieszko I Platonogi. When in 1327 another of the Raciborz princes, Leszek, was forced to pay homage to the Czech king, the Pszczyna Land was in the orbit of influence of our southern neighbors. The beginning of the 15th century brings the first mention of the existence of a stone castle.

The residence successfully survived World War II, without being devastated by the German or Soviet armies, so in 1946 a museum was created here, which is now called the Castle Museum in Pszczyna, presenting mainly palace interiors and furnishings as well as items from the Hochberg collection. On May 9, 2001, the Cabinet of Miniatures was opened in one of the rooms of the castle, and on May 12, 2009, in the Gothic cellars - the Armory.

The castle is now a Baroque residence. Its shape is the result of many alterations made in subsequent centuries. This building is one of the most valuable monuments of this kind in Poland, which is contributed by, among others preservation of original interior design. From the post-war years, there is a museum in the castle, with several interesting collections - including military items and miniatures.

The castle in Pszczyna presents mainly rich, palace interiors and equipment as well as items from the Hochberg collection. Importantly - as much as 80% of interior furnishings from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries have survived in the Castle.
