Take part in our World War II tour in Krakow.

II World War was the largest one in history and it all started in Poland. The date of the beginning of the war is assumed to be September 1, 1939 - German aggression against Poland.

World War II was the biggest conflict in the history of mankind. The total number of victims is estimated at over 60 million people and the data is not verifiable in view of the scale of destruction and the enormity of war crimes. The German extermination program for the Jewish people took an unusually lethal toll. Poland was the country that suffered particularly hard as a result of hostilities and planned extermination. It is estimated that in 1939-1945 it lost over 20% of the population, which translates into about 6 million citizens. Material losses reached over 30% of the pre-war states, and the capital of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth - Warsaw, was almost completely destroyed. The consequences of World War II - both material and political - are still felt today. The direct effect of the division of spheres of influence in Central and Eastern Europe was the subordination of the countries of the region to the Soviet Union and the installation of communist authorities controlled by Moscow there. The process of regaining the full sovereignty of the countries of the former Eastern Bloc began only with the first free elections in June 1989 in Poland, the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1989, and finally the collapse of the Soviet Union in December 1991.

World War II ended: the signing of the unconditional surrender of the Third Reich on May 7, 1945 in Reims, with the entry into force of May 8, 1945, which ended warfare in Europe, and the act of unconditional surrender of Japan, signed on September 2, 1945 aboard the battleship USS Missouri in the Tokyo Bay, definitively ended the war operations of World War II.
