Public transport in Krakow (Jan 11, 2012)

Krakow is proud of its public transportation network. Many times it was announced best public transport in Poland and once even 9th best in the world according to Forbes Magazine ranking in 2008.

It is probably because of very central location of Old Town with Main Market where all major avenues and street lead to. It is also because Krakow is relatively small city - less than 800,000 citizens and 1,25 million in metro area.

In the centre of the city, trams are most important mean of public transport, the further from the centre, the more important buses are – in many districts buses are the only option of transport. The same tickets are valid for trams and buses. Trams are usually quicker than buses and more comfortable.

If you are visiting Krakow as a tourist and stay in the hotel in Old Town area or Kazimierz District, you will probably not need to use public transport at all because most of interesting sites are located within a walking distance. Main Market area is the pedestrian zone only.
