Travelling on Polish roads is free, except just a few short ways including one between Katowice and Krakow. Total cost for this distance one way is 16 PLN per car.

Generally in Poland there is a lack of motorways, freeways and fast routes. There are major plans of building them, some works are underway, but the earliest time for them to be finished is in 2012. The minimum age for driving in Poland is 18 years of age. Rear seat belts must be also fastened all the time. Children under 12 years old cannot sit in a front seat.
Worst traffic jams in Krakow can be expected between 8 a.m. – 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. – these are the rush hours in the city. Krakow suffers lack of free parking space, mostly because of compact Old Town with narrow streets and huge pedestrian zone. Generally car is not useful in the centre at all. If you need to go outside the city centre you can use public transportation – bus or tram. Public transportation has a very good network of connections and is not expensive. One single ticket for adult per one ride by bus or tram costs only 2,5 PLN. (1,25 PLN is reduced ticket for students).
