Church of St Barbara bordering Plac Mariacki on the east was founded in 14th century by Mikolaj Wierzynek and was the cemetery chapel.

The church was rebuilt many times. The present external form is Gothic, while interior presents the effects of Baroque transformation. In 1583 it was handed over to Jesuits and housed a Jesuit college. What is worth noticing is that the author of the late-16th century Polish translation of the Bible from Latin, Jakub Wujek rests under the church. Moreover, it contains such treasure as 15th-century Gothic pieta.
