Historical Museum is very big one, located in on the Main Market Square in Krzysztofory Palace. It was opened in 1899 and since then it has gathered many precious collections. Many of them relate to former governments of the city.


Worth mentioning is scepter and ring of mayors of Krakow from 16th century and silver counter and crucifix of City Board from 18th century. Museum houses rich collection of paintings, draws and maps presenting Krakow in different historical periods. Some permanent exhibitions are focused on the lives of Cracovians through the ages and include a collection of burial urns representing their deaths.
According to the local legend, Historical Museum has its own ghost, the Black Lady upstairs and its own Devil in the cellars.
