Trattoria La Campana is a new place that has recently appeared on the gastronomic map of Krakow. The restaurant is located in the Old Town, at 7 Kanonicza Street, one of the oldest streets of Krakow, near the Archdiocesan Museum and the Bishops Palace, the former seat of Cardinal Karol Wojtyla. The address is worth remembering as it will, certainly, soon become an inherent part of Krakow culinary landscape.

A historic tenement called ”Dom pod Trzema Koronami” (House under Three Crowns), which rooms La Campana, was once a place of meetings of Bractwo Dzwonnikow Wawelskich (Fraternity of Wawel Bell-ringers) who were responsible for the Sigismund Bell. Hence the name of “trattoria” which means “bell” in free translation. Tradition says that after hard work (swinging the 13 tones’ colossus requires great effort) members of the Fraternity met in a local inn to recover strength.
An enormous Late Gothic gate made of wrought iron leads to the restaurant. A homelike romantically lit interiors are ornamented with frescos of olive branches. Capacious dressers hide Italian delicacies: olive oils, jars with olives and wines from the best vineyards of Italy and the New World. Moreover, the restaurant offers its guests two rooms on the ground floor overlooking the garden and intends to open its basement. Worthy of note is the beautiful romantic garden of the restaurant surrounded with monumental walls and adjoining the Gardens of the Archaeological Museum.   Italian cuisine lovers will find here the most delicious dishes prepared based on original products, as well as peace and rest from the hubbub of the city. Some of the specialties of the restaurant are Italian charcuterie – various kinds of prosciutto, salami, breasola, exquisite appetizers, such as roast pear with gorgonzola cheese and diverse kinds of pasta. Apart from classical dishes, such as spaghetti carbonara, canneloni, lasagna and risotto, the restaurant offers unique compositions of pasta with delicious sauces. We particularly recommend main courses such as beef tournedos, lamb chops served with tagliatelle with pesto, tuna steak on grilled pepper and Italian dill, as well as dorada al cartoccio baked in a stove, marinated in white wine with vegetables and herbs. The menu contains also exquisite desserts: from baking tin, layer cake with risotta cheese and forests fruits or traditional panna cotta on a tart with strawberries. For the lovers of Italian alcoholic beverages we prepared typical Italian aperitifs, grappa, fruit liqueurs and digestifs, such as Fernet Branca.
