Ludowy Theatre, in English 'The People's Theatre', is one of the most famous in Krakow and definitely number one of its kind in Nowa Huta, the former communists-planned city founded near Krakow in 1949. The Ludowy Theatre started its performances in 1955 and has been maintaining high artistic quality of its works until today.

For many years Nowa Huta was recognized by people of Krakow and also nationwide, mostly on two things: steel and Ludowy Theatre. Since 2005, Jacek Strama is a director of the theatre. Its today’s repertoire is focused on European dramaturgy. Since 2008 Ludowy Theatre has developed an idea of theatre festival which annually is held here, hosting actors and repertoires from different theatres from other post-industrial Polish cities.
