The mission of the Walery Rzewuski Museum of History of Photography in Krakow is the protection of material cultural heritage. The museum fills it by collecting, studying, storing, preserving and making available for research and exhibition of cultural goods of photography, technique and technology of photography and photographic art.


The museum organizes exhibitions, spreads knowledge, conducts research and education activities and cooperates regionally, nationally and internationally with individuals, local government units, institutions of art and culture, government offices, companies and museum associations.
Opened in 2005, the permanent exhibition "From the history of photography" indicates the issues from the history of Polish photography. It presents works of Polish photographers – from 1850s to 1939. Exhibited photographs range from portraits to landscapes, ethnographic pictures, architecture images, press illustrations, photo reportages and to art photography. The exhibition concerns technique and technology, embellishment and use of photography as well as collecting and preserving it.
