Old Town in Kraków

Home > What to see > Old Town > Old Town

(Stare Miasto in Polish) is the oldest and most important district of Krakow. Krakow has been the seat of kings, archbishops, monks, magnates and merchants for a thousand years and the history left its trail. Each generation has added treasures to the city, leaving the visitor with an embarrassment of cultural riches to explore.

The majority of places of interest in Krakow is located in its fairly compact historic centre so the best way to explore the city is to do it on foot. The Old Town is also a place where the past meets with the present as it is the heart of today's modern Krakow. Cafes, restaurants and shops are flourishing on the streets of the Old Town area and they can easily provide a place to have a rest for thousands of people at one time.
